I actually saw this 'in the flesh' once. Not this particular person but I was at an exhibition and I walked past a woman in what looked like a rather outrageous but stunning costume. I'd taken a couple of paces before I gave her one of those almost comical second glances. It had taken time to register that the lacing was attached to her back and not the dress. Yes, it did look painful. The piercings were still red and it made me wonder how long ago she'd had them done and how on earth she slept without ripping her back open - I couldn't see how she could remove them every night. Eeek.
